Barry Kenwood Presentation

At a recent Observers meeting we were lucky enough to have one of our car examiners, Barry Kenwood, attending. Barry is a recognised expert in his field and has offered to facilitate a one day workshop on “RoSPA Advanced Test Preparation as seen from the Examiners perspective”.

Assuming sufficient interest the workshop will run on Sunday 11th September.

It explodes the more important aspects of ROADCRAFT and is designed to compliment reading of the advanced drivers’ bible. It does NOT look to teach anything but to explore and provide understanding of those things that examiners tend to look for when making that assessment.

It is a THREE section presentation each of around 2 hours - depending upon Q&A interaction.

Although primarily aimed at car drivers there will be plenty of interest for our motorcycle members.

A buffet lunch plus tea and coffee will be provided and there will be a nominal cost of £3 for attendance. This will be waived for Observers who will also be given preference should the event be oversubscribed.

We are currently identifying a suitable venue which we hope will be in the Eastleigh area.

Start time will likely be 09:30 although confirmation of this will be given to successful applicants who will also receive a 14 page document by e-mail giving notes that supplement the presentations.

Spaces will be limited so if you would like to attend please send your name to Caroline at secretary@roadar-hants.org.uk.

This will be of value to both drivers and riders and all applications must be received by 1st September.

If you are interested in attending this highly informative day then I strongly advise that you get your application in as spaces will be limited - and all the good sandwiches will be gone.

Social Event

We are proposing to run a social event on Sunday September 18th 2011. The event would be open to all riders and drivers. Our thoughts are for one of the following options:

Option A.

Meet at central location around 10:00 – say Rownhams Services West Bound. Riders and drivers will then be given a route to follow (varies) which will require them to glean three pieces of information on their way to the ultimate destination which will be the Army Museum of Flying at Middle Wallop. On arrival the groups will congregate and at around 11:30 the groups will be given a 20 minute talk by the centre and this will be followed by a guided tour of the museum or you will able to wander freely. Following this there is a nice cafe attached to the museum where you can purchase refreshments or make your own way home.

Option B.

Meet at the Army Museum of Flying at Middle Wallop at 11:30 and join the tour.

Costs for the talk and museum viewing will be £6.50 per person.

If interested in participating please send Carolyn a note by June 30 confirming which option you would prefer.

Depending on levels of interest we will confirm this event or try and think of other events that may be more to the memberships liking. Any suggestions would be welcome.

PS The correct answers to the three questions will be put into a hat with one lucky winner being drawn at random.

Social Rides

The motorcycle social rides have proven popular with a hardy few but the distance, typically some 400 miles, and an early start has put some people off.

In order to try increase the level of choice and meet both the needs and aspirations of our own and a neighbouring Group it has been decided that future rides will be a combined event with Thames Valley Advanced Riders.

The other change is that the rides will typically be conducted on the first Sunday of each month as this may also suit more riders. Details of the ride can be obtained by logging on to:

Observer Training

We will be running an Observer introduction course in Romsey over two evenings on Tuesday 22nd March and Tuesday 5th April. Each session starts at 7:00 pm with coffee and will conclude around 9:30pm. If you are interested in becoming an Observer then why not come along as long as you have passed the test at Gold standard or are willing to retake the test and achieve Gold. We are looking to train both Car and Motorcycle Observers. Attendance doesn't commit you, or us, to further training. If you haven't already responded to the Chief Observer (Cars or Motorcycles) confirming your attendance then please do so as soon as possible since places are limited. If you are already in contact then you need take no further action.
